Kapha is one of the three Doshas (Life Force) in Ayurveda that means science of live. Kapha Diet is the diet style by people who belond to Kapha Dosha family.
We speak of the Kapha Ayurveda type when the Kapha Dosha is particularly pronounced in a person. His always stoic calm is convincing and with a few tips for stimulation he stays healthy in the long run.
What does Kapha mean?
The three Doshas (life forces) Vata, Pitta and Kapha determine the individual constitution of each person. All recommendations of Ayurvedic medicine are based on this so-called Ayurveda type.
In Kapha the earth element and the water element meet. Therefore Kapha combines qualities like heavy, slow and steady, but also soft, dense, tough and cold. In the body, kapha is responsible for firmness and all structures, as well as for the right amount of body fluids.
The Kapha Type in Ayurveda
We all like the lovable nature of the Kapha people. Having them close to us can be a real joy. Nothing seems to upset their balance, they always seem patient and understanding. They are the ideal managers, who can ring several phones at the same time. Kapha types answer other urgent questions in between – all in the peace and quiet they are given. They keep what they once learned and can remember little things.
The Kapha type has declared regularity and routine to be his principle of life, he does not have to work on it. This all sounds very positive if there were not also a tendency to overeating, lack of exercise and excessive sleep.
His ability to hold on to things, pounds, water and people makes life difficult for him in some ways, but financially it leads him to wealth and possessions.
Physical qualities of the Kapha type
The Kapha appearance is striking because of her stately figure, her beautiful big eyes, her well curved mouth, her smooth porcelain skin, her snow-white teeth, her thick hair and her inner peace.
Typical Kapha Disorders
If the Kapha type follows its tendencies to overeating, lack of exercise and long sleep, its Kapha-Dosha derails and depression, overweight, stone ailments and diabetes mellitus may develop.
Health Tips for Kapha Types
If a Kapha-dominated person manages to exercise regularly, to change his job or place of residence from time to time and to eat less than he is offered, he impresses with strength and stamina throughout his life. It is good to skip digestive sleep during the day and look for exciting situations.
Running and Osho meditations as well as a workplace without (too much) sitting keep the Kapha type fit. Deep massages with warm herbal oils stimulate the Kapha well. An Ayurvedic purification (Panchakarma cure) is a fountain of youth for him. He doesn’t know stress anyway, at most stimulation.
Kapha Diet : How Does It Work?
Ayurvedic types – According to Ayurvedic teachings, the Kapha type must pay a little more attention to his dietary habits and the choice of food than the other two types – he tends to be slightly overweight.
If the Kapha type eats too fatty and too heavy, this can not only quickly become noticeable in his weight, but also in the form of listlessness. Light, fresh and warmly prepared food in three meals is exactly the right thing for a healthy diet according to the Ayurveda principle. This can consist, for example, of the following ingredients and spices.
Meat and other animal products
The Kapha type should rather eat less meat and if they do, it is best to use lean poultry. Low-fat fish is also a good part of his diet. Goat, sheep and vegetable soy milk products are better than cow’s milk products for his diet, milk and cream should only be enjoyed in moderation. The same applies to eggs.
Fruit and vegetables
When it comes to fruit and vegetables, the Kapha guy gets a good punch. In the case of fruit, he should not choose too sweet or too sour varieties. Berries, apples, mangos, persimmons, figs and cherries are good for him. Bananas, pineapples and dates less.
This Ayurveda type can also well integrate dried fruits into its diet. Vegetables are best eaten steamed – broccoli, root vegetables, Brussels sprouts, spinach, paprika, celery and eggplants are among the foods particularly suitable for Kapha people.
Cereals, nuts, spices and oils
The Kapha type is best suited to whole grain cereals when cooking: millet, couscous and barley fit perfectly. Nuts and seeds should be consumed in moderation, preferably sunflower or pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds.
When it comes to spices, the Kapha type is allowed to have a good grip and season his dishes with cinnamon, coriander, cloves, pepper, nutmeg, caraway and anything else he likes. Because that stimulates the metabolism properly and helps it not to gain weight so quickly. He should use oil in small quantities, especially soy, thistle and sunflower oil.
