Many pregnant women feel uncomfortable with their weight during pregnancy. It is actually quite normal to increase steadily in pregnancy. However, this does not apply to women who are already overweight.

In the first months of pregnancy, many women do not feel hungry at all and are rather bad. Is my weight gain normal in pregnancy?

However, that’s not a cause for concern: There are different weight jumps at different stages of pregnancy. However, weight gain also depends on the starting weight:

  • Underweight: BMI below 18.5-> 12.5 to 18 kilograms
  • Normal weight: BMI 18.5 to 24.9-> 11.5 to 16 kilograms
  • Overweight: BMI 25 to 29.9-> 7 to 11.5 kilograms
  • Obesity: BMI 30 and over-> 7 kilograms or less

What can I do if I get too much in pregnancy?

If you realize that your weight is increasing more and more, then you should try to pull the emergency brake. However, a one-sided diet in pregnancy does not make sense because the baby needs all the nutrients for its development.

Which helps you: Get more and try to eat healthily. But this does not mean renunciation: Instead of the fries there are oven potatoes now, chocolate is replaced by fresh fruit. This, of course, doesn’t satisfy all pregnancy cravings, but makes physical sense.

Sports in pregnancy: Many sports are suitable for pregnant women. A high risk of injury should be avoided. These sports are ideal:

  • Swimming
  • Walking
  • Cycling
  • Strength sport
  • Yoga & Pilates

Childbirth with obesity is more difficult

London researchers studied studies of childbirth with obesity worldwide: In doing so, they found that a BMI of 20 is ideal for having a successful spontaneous birth. Although many parameters were different in the studies, the researchers agree that less weight has a positive effect on childbirth.

However, the researchers saw the possibility of getting to grips with overgaviation even before pregnancy. As a rule, women announce their wish to have children at the gynaecologist. In severely overweight women, the doctor should lose weight even then advised to lose weight. This not only increases the chances of a normal birth, but also the probability of becoming pregnant in general.

Is there a real weight in pregnancy?

Every pregnant woman is distinguishable and there is no “correct ” weight. While it is generally true that the less weight in addition to the natural weight that belongs to pregnancy is added, the pregnancy is healthier. Still, even if you’re overshooting the recommended weight, that doesn’t mean your pregnancy is unhealthy or you can’t have a natural birth.

How the weight is distributed during pregnancy

You don’t just increase in pregnancy because you feed too much chocolate. The changes in your body also cause you to go.

This allows the weight to spread in the body when you have increased around 14 kilos at the end of the pregnancy:

  • Uterus: 1.5 kilos
  • More blood: 2 kilos
  • Placenta: 0.5 kilos
  • Amniotic fluid: 1 kilo
